Legal Aid at VMSCL, Goa – “A hyphen that joins, a buckle that fastens…”

Training Session on Welfare Schemes

Legal Aid, being a prime activity in the academic curriculum at V. M. Salgaocar College of Law, every student member devotes a minimum of 2 hours a week for legal aid activity. In addition to the legal literacy programs, the members are actively involved in facilitating the implementation of various welfare schemes of the Government of Goa.  This is a dual process, involving creating awareness on the welfare schemes available to specified groups followed by assisting the applicants in filing application and availing of the schemes. Thus the Legal Aid Cells act as “a hyphen that joins, a buckle that fastens” the government welfare schemes with the beneficiaries.

To empower the students to undertake this task in the best manner possible, the Legal Aid Society of the College conducts training sessions periodically. On 11th December, The Legal Aid Society organized a training session in the College for the students on the welfare schemes of the Department of Women and Child Development. The session was conducted by Mrs. Rupa Dalvi, Project Officer, Department of Women and Child Development (Tiswadi, Goa). Prof. Dr. M.R.K.Prasad, Principal of V.M.Salgaocar College of Law welcomed the guest and addressed the students on the need to bridge the gap between Government Departments and the beneficiaries as far as the welfare programs are concerned.
