Protection Against Sexual Harassment and Domestic Violence – Panel Discussion Organised by Bandora Legal Aid Cell



Bandora Free Legal Aid Cell of V.M.Salgaocar College of Law provides Free Legal Assistance  to the locals of Bandora and the people in the surrounding village. The Cell functions every Saturday at Bandora Panchayat Hall from 3.00 PM till 5.00 PM. The faculty in-charge Prof. Bhakti Naik guides the students to conduct the cell programmes efficiently.

Bandora Legal Aid cell organised a Panel discussion on Protection against Sexual Harassment and Domestic Violence at Bandora Ponda, at Sanjeevan High Secondary School on 7th January 2017.


Ms. Pooja Naik spoke about the activities of Bandora Cell and welcomed the audience. Mr. Tejas Kamat introduced the panellists. Mr A.K. Kamat proposed the theme for discussion. Thereafter the panelists discussed on various aspects of domestic violence and sexual harassment of women. Throughout the discussion, members from the audience was raiding questions and issues, which were discussed over by the panel. 


The questions related to procedure of complaint of sexual harassment, whether mental harassment is harassment, remedies available to minor victims in sexual harassment, what if victim is a boy child or male, information of the helpline 1091(women helpline no), and such other issues.

On the Rights of Women - PERNEM LEGAL AID CELL

Pernem Free Legal Aid Cell of V.M.Salgaocar College of Law organised a legal literacy programme on Rights of Women on on 16th March 2016 at village Panchayat Hall of Virnoda Village Panchayat, Pernem Goa.

The Chief Guest of the programme was P.I. Mr. Ninad Deulkar. The Guest of Honour was Adv. Sameer Sawal Desai. Other Guests were the Dy.Sarpanch of the Village Panchayat Ms. Mayusha Chari and faculty In charge of Pernem Legal Aid Cell Asst.Prof. Bhakti Naik.

Miss. Anuka Khanodkar,compered the programme. Miss. Varsha Redkar, Dy.Incharge of cell gave an introduction of the cell and its functioning. Introduction of the guests was done by Miss. Priyanka Desai. Prof. Bhakti Naik, spoke about women’s right in general and made people aware about Women’s Day celebrated worldwide.

The Guest Speaker, Adv. Sameer Sawal Desai spoke on Domestic Violence Act, 2005. He explained the content of the act and explained how it is helpful for women who are being harassed by their husband and in-laws. He also explained it by giving live examples. He even spoke on the topic of registration of birth and death. He made awareness about importance of registration of birth and death and also explained the disadvantages of not registering.

The Chief Guest of the programme P.I. Mr. Ninad Deulkar spoke about women rights in general when she goes to file a complaint at the police station and when she is arrested for any offence. He even advised women not to feel hesitated to file a complaint. He even explained the procedure of filing a complaint. He also spoke about the side effect of social media on children’s and how their parents can protect their children from such side effects. He also shared some additional information about the counseling done at police station and told  about the helpline number available for women i.e. 1098.
The deputy Sarpanch of the Village Miss. Mayusha Chari spoke about the present position of women in society and the crimes happening and she advised daughter in-laws and mother in-laws to treat each other with respect and care.
After the talk, refreshments were served and then an interactive session was conducted where in people could ask questions to the Guest. Many from audience asked few questions and cleared their doubts.
Miss. Diksha Arondekar, student in charge of the cell gave vote of thanks.

Brittona Free Legal Aid Cell takes up Legal Literacy on Senior Citizens Schemes and Women’s Rights




An extensive campaign preceded the literacy program which was held held at Dhadeshwar Devasthan Temple Hall. on 30th January 2016.  A group of five students covered 337 houses and informed about the program and extended invitation for the same. 


Mr. Shelendra Shet, Field Assistant, B.D.O explained the various government schemes for senior citizens. Thereafter Adv. Shivani Pednekar spoke on the Rights of Women under various legislations.



The panch of Brittona Village, Mr. Gajanan Halankar. and Ms. Shruti Mahambrey, Faculty representative from V.M.Salgaocar College of Law were also present. 


Ms. Sanjuncta welcomed the guests with flowers and Ms. Pritee Shirodkar introduced the guests. Student in charge, Ms. Suprit Dessai spoke about the services rendered by Brittona Free Legal Aid Cell and Ms. Bhagyasree Bawane proposed the vote of thanks. Mr. Nivon Serrao was the comperer.

Sexual Harassment at Workplace and Domestic Violence - Prevention through Awareness @ Merces

Merces Free Legal Aid Cell of V.M.Salgaocar College of Law organised an awareness program on Prevention of Sexual Harassment at Work Place and Domestic Violence on 24th January 2016 at Merces Panchayat Hall, Merces-Goa.



Adv. Mrs. Harsha Naik was the guest speaker and Dr. Nagesh Colvalkar, the faculty in charge of the Cell attended the program. Adv.Naik spoke about problems faced by women at workplace and also in the domestic sphere.She explained the significance of enforcement of the Domestic Violence Prevention Act of 2005. She also spoke about the importance of educating girl child. 


The session was interactive in nature and the women participants had keen interest and many questions were raised.The guest speaker ended the session by commending the work of the cell and encouraging the audience to approach the free legal aid cell in case of any legal problem whatsoever.
Ms.Maria proposed the vote of thanks.
